1 C brown sugar
1/4 C molasses
2 1/4 flour
2 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
1 t. ground ginger
1 t. cinnamon
1/2 t. ground cloves (or, we use allspice)
- Cream shortening, sugar, molasses, and egg together until fluffy.
- Sift remaining ingredients together.
- Stir into molasses mixture.
- Form smallish balls with hands. They should be a bit smaller than a golf ball.
- Roll in granulated sugar and place 2 inches apart on baking sheet.
- Bake in 375 F oven for 12 minutes.
